The annual United Way of Fresno County Backpack Giveaway will be held this Friday at Eaton Plaza in Downtown Fresno. This year, 2,500 backpacks filled with school supplies and age appropriate books will be distributed to students age five to fifteen years of age.

At approximately 6:30pm, Larry Powell, former Fresno County superintendent of schools and current chair of the UWFC Campaign Cabinet will be speaking about the importance of education and serving the community.

Wristbands to receive a backpack will be given out to children at 6pm and backpacks will be distributed at 7pm.

There will be a long line and very little parking so attendees are encouraged to arrive early with a snack and drink.

After the backpacks are distributed, “The Lego Movie” will be shown on a big screen for families to enjoy.
