Make A Difference In Your Community At Work

You hear us say Live United all the time. You see us write it and post it everywhere. That is because we know that we can’t change things in Fresno and Madera Counties alone. Partnerships are at the foundation of everything we do and Workplace Giving is the one of the best examples of what we can accomplish together. Our Workplace Giving team will do all the heavy lifting to partner with your staff at your company and make supporting your favorite causes easier than ever before. We also give back to your team by sharing information, resources, and services that your benefit your staff. Learn even more about this opportunity and how you can get started below.

What is Workplace Giving?

This isn’t a short answer, but we’ll give it a shot. We think of it like a community chest, which was actually what United Way was when it started. Everyone puts money in, and the money comes out in a variety of ways to address the greatest needs. We use the campaign model because we’ve found spreading giving throughout the year makes it easier for someone to make donations while still staying within their personal budget. However, there is so much wrapped up inside a campaign so keep scrolling to learn all about it.

United We Fight. United We Win.

People scratch their head when we use the word
“fight” but that is how passionate we are about making lasting change. We envision a world where working families can prosper and thrive, where things like race or ethnicity have no bearing on access to education,
wealth creation, or well-being. The more that join
that fight, the sooner we all win.

Where It’s Needed Most

Removing barriers to hope and prosperity is at the center of all our work and it shows in our programs. From our 211 Helpline connecting people to vital services, to our Free Tax Prep program putting cash back credits in the hands of as many as possible, each and every program is focused on fighting inequity and creating a world where people can thrive, not just survive.

Helping Helps You

Starting a campaign creates a wealth of other benefits. It let’s everyone know your organization’s commitment to improving lives in Fresno and Madera Counties. A campaign encourages teamwork and enhances employee relationships while connecting them directly to the work being done. You’ll have an opportunity to be featured as a Corporate Community Champion.

Your Money Stays Here

Every donation made stays right here in Fresno and Madera County. When your give regularly, that money is combined with all of the other workplace campaigns to amplify the impact. Your gift will also be unrestricted, meaning if an issue arrises in our community (like a pandemic or wildfire) we can apply these funds to that work and get help to our neighbors as soon as possible.

The value of giving makes a difference. Employees will make an investment that benefits the entire community, not just one program, issue, or population. We provide everything you need to make the program simple so you all can just focus on the impact of the gifts. Also when you pledge to help our fight, we pledge ourselves to you. Our team won’t just show up, ask for your donation, and then never been seen again. We’ll continue to meet with your team and share volunteer opportunities that span our community, be it with us our one of our trusted partner organizations. We leverage the contributions by combining it with others and strategically investing in results-driven programs and initiatives to maximize the impact we have in the community. The following videos go a little further into how that happens.

Ready to start your campaign?

Eventually we want to live in a world where one day, you go to donate to us and we’ve gone out of business. We’ve put in the work and eradicated all issues our neighbors face. The more people that join this fight, the sooner we reach that goal, but we aren’t there yet. That’s why we need your team’s help. So if you like what you’ve heard, want to galvanize your team around making their community even better, and let us make giving back as easy as can be, then take the next step:

Any CEOs, presidents, human resource directors, or other boss-type decision-makers should reach out to oarnold@uwfm.org and our Senior Director of Resource Development, Olivia, will walk you through how easy it is to start Workplace Giving.

A:

Anytime of year is a great time for giving! When you are ready to start a workplace campaign our team has the resources to support you.

Q:

How long should a campaign last?

A:

Typically campaigns run year round with engagement activities implemented, but we can tailor it to fit your needs.

Q:

Is it better to donate through e-pledge or paper pledges?

A:

We offer both to provide the most flexibility for you. Our online system offers simple access to distribute donation information as well as giving your staff options to update their gifts anytime. We also have paper pledge forms can be dropped off at your site if that makes payroll deductions easier to integrate into your system. Our team can review all of these options with you in detail.

Q:

Do employees need to sign up every year to make a new donation/pledge?

A:

No. When anyone chooses not to update their giving information, this means they are comfortable with their previous decision of giving and previous amounts will be rolled over. Also, gifts can be updated and stopped at anytime.

Q:

Can employees make one-time donations?

A:

Yes! Any employee can make a one- time donation from their paycheck, by personal check, or credit card through our online donation site.

Q:

What is the difference between a pledge and the amount deducted through payroll?

A:

A pledge is the amount you hope for payroll to take out of your paycheck. At any point you are allowed to stop designations or change the amount of donation. The amount deducted through payroll is the actual amount for donation.

Q:
